From machinery theft and fuel syphoning to fly-tipping and livestock worrying, the impact on farm businesses is financial, emotional, and often long-lasting.
While the nature of crime is changing, its effects remain deeply disruptive to daily life in our countryside.
At the NFU, we are working closely with Nottinghamshire Police Rural Crime Team to ensure farming communities are heard and supported.
We’re seeing progress: more patrols in hotspot areas, better use of drone and GPS tracking technology and greater collaboration with local councils to address persistent issues like illegal waste dumping.
But prevention starts with awareness and data is needed to quantify the size and impact of rural crime in the county.
We urge all members to remain vigilant - report suspicious activity, keep equipment securely stored, and consider joining Notts Alert.
By working together, we can make rural crime harder to commit and easier to stop.
